About HOPE Academies

Approach

HOPE Academies strive for excellence. Here are just a few of the approaches we use:

  • Our academies are based on tradition, established procedures, and best practices.

  • We develop approaches and programs that fit our children. These programs develop every child's ability and maximize individual achievement, whether they come to us above or below grade level.

  • We expect that when teachers teach, children learn – and if the child hasn't learned, the teacher needs to assess and teach again until learning takes place.

  • Academically, we focus on reading and mathematics. We strive to have all of our students reading at grade level and exhibit sound mathematics competencies appropriate to his/her grade level.

  • Our reading program (Direct Instruction) is entirely research based and field tested. Statistics show it to be a highly effective mastery reading program. Each child is placed according to his/her own level and advances in a systematic, self-paced manner.

  • Our mathematics program accommodates individual needs, concentrates on one topic at a given time, and uses repetition to enhance learning and information retention.

  • Like our parents, our teachers arrive at HOPE Academies by choice. They begin each school year with three weeks of in-service training, and stay current with ongoing training and learning opportunities.

  • All classrooms have state-of-the-art computers, and all academies have computer labs – all with the latest software programs and learning technologies. Every academy also has a full-time technology teacher.

The HOPE Academies and Riverside Academy are community schools established under Chapter 3314 of the Revised Code. These schools are public schools and students enrolled in and attending the schools are required to take proficiency tests and other examinations prescribed by law. In addition, there may be other requirements for students at the schools that are prescribed by law. Students who have been excused from the compulsory attendance law for the purpose of home education as defined by the Administrative Code shall no longer be excused for that purpose upon their enrollment in a community school. For more information about this matter contact the school administration or the Ohio Department of Education.
