About HOPE Academies

The White Hat Way

Principle #3 - Utilizing modern teaching techniques and the latest technology

At White Hat, although we understand that technology can be an incredible tool to facilitate learning, we believe the computer will never be a substitute for a qualified teacher. As such, we carefully integrate technology to supplement our teacher’s instruction and facilitate communication, research, writing, and analysis to more fully and effectively prepare students for life in the real world.

That’s why every teacher in every White Hat school has a computer on his or her desk, to enhance their productivity and student learning. In addition, our teachers have easy access to the internet and other educational technologies, including video cameras, cassette tape recorders, VCR's, televisions, and laser discs. We also integrate the use of the computer into our day-to-day operations by teaching students how it can be used to aid thinking, writing, problem-solving and academic research.

Students can retrieve assignments and turn in homework electronically. Parents with home computers can electronically communicate with teachers, and take part in the life of the school community.

The HOPE Academies and Riverside Academy are community schools established under Chapter 3314 of the Revised Code. These schools are public schools and students enrolled in and attending the schools are required to take proficiency tests and other examinations prescribed by law. In addition, there may be other requirements for students at the schools that are prescribed by law. Students who have been excused from the compulsory attendance law for the purpose of home education as defined by the Administrative Code shall no longer be excused for that purpose upon their enrollment in a community school. For more information about this matter contact the school administration or the Ohio Department of Education.
